Headwaters Disc Golf Club

Meet The Crew

About Us

The Headwaters Disc Golf Club is a group of disc golfers from the Gallatin valley and surrounding areas. We work towards bringing more exciting and accessible opportunities for play in the region while at the same time working with our local communities and organizations to foster a beneficial relationship for all.

As of 2018, the Headwaters Disc Golf Club is an officially recognized not-for-profit organization. We are excited for the potential this status brings to our efforts in expanding local disc golf.

The club is welcome to all who welcome all. If you play disc golf and even if you don’t, or if you just love getting out into our beautiful surroundings and spending time with the folks that makes this place so special, then don’t hesitate to come to any of our events! If you just want to get out and play or just say “hi”, then head over to our Facebook page!

About The Sport

Disc golf is just that, golf with a disc! Of course it is not as simple as that. For those checking out disc golf for the first time, like the golf, disc golf is played on set holes where the player throws their disc from a tee pad towards a target, usually a basket with chains hanging down to slow and stop incoming discs. Players keep track of the number of throws it takes to get their disc to the target. Unlike ball golf, whose courses require space on par with airports, disc golf courses can be put in parks, on mountainsides, or around lakes!

No one can say for sure when or where disc golf was invented, but it’s safe to say people have been throwing flying discs at targets since they have had discs to throw. The pivotal moment that sent disc golf down the path to where it is today would be when, in 1976. Ed Headrick founded the Professional Disc Golf Association. The PDGA is the governing body for the sport, setting rules and regulations as well as organizing the top tiers of play.

Today, disc golf courses can be found in every state in the united States and every continent on the planet. As of 2017, the PDGA reported over 40,000 active users, the number steadily climbing yearly, and those are just the players who have joined the professional association. The number of casual players is immeasurable, and that is one of the wonderful things about disc golf: the sport is available to any and all. So old or young, tall or short, grab family and friends, pick up some plastic, find some baskets and have a great time! We hope to see you out there!
